OUR CITY IN PHOTOS

 The city sometime was the centre of the region called Udvarhelyszek. Entering from south the city there is the Jesus Heart chapel the most authentic monument dating from the medieval age. Its base is similar to a four-leaf clover. The Szekely Támadt castle is another historical monument of the city. According to Orban Balazs there is memorial about the existence of the castle from 1333. The towers are named after the captains at one time: Telegdy, Hajdu, Foris and Banffy.
From 1504 functioned here a court of justice with 17 members, which treated all the cases in Szeklerland.
The city got the right for sigil and coat of arms from Queen Izabella in 1558. In the XVII, XVIII th century here was hold diets several times.
In 1876 was founded Udvarhely county and the city became its seat.
The city hall of today was built in 1895. The catholic church on the Szent Miklos hill was built between 1787-1792. Near the church is the Tamasi Aron high school from the beginning of the XX th century. The reformed church is in the centre of the city. Next to this church on the Town Hall s square is the statue of Orban Balazs. On the Marton Aron square is the building of the reformed college and the Benedek Elek teacher training school in front of which is the statue of the great storyteller. Benedek Elek was the student of the reformed college too. In front of the Teacher training school, on the Marton Aron Square there is the Vasszekely (Iron szekler) statue and above the Marton Aron statues. Not far from this square walking on the Kossuth Lajos street you can visit the Museum Haaz Rezso and the Art school Pallo Imre. Near the way to Sovata you can admire the Memorial Park. Continuing the way you can find the park of the city, near which is the Culture Center with the statue of Tomcsa Sandor and Szechenyi Istvan.
